District No. 13 The Bader School

The District No.13 School, also known as The Bader School, marked a significant milestone as the second educational institution erected in the Altona neighborhood. The initial Bader School was a hastily constructed wooden structure, intended to accommodate the rapidly growing population of school-age children in Altona. However, it was soon abandoned in favor of the stone-built, one-room Bader School, a testament to community collaboration, which emerged in 1887 and promptly welcomed its first students.

This school earned its name from John Bader, a remarkable figure who transitioned from his service in the Civil War to becoming an early settler in the area. Initially, he worked as a miner before acquiring land along the Left Hand Creek and ultimately establishing himself as one of Boulder County's pioneering orchardists and a prominent leader within the Altona community.

Today, the Bader School House stands as a meticulously restored and historically significant residence.
